Misty Vanderlinden: March 13, 1998 - June 19, 2011

We rescued  3-year old “Misty” in 2001.  Having lost “Trixie” just 6 months earlier, we were NOT thinking of getting another one.  In April of ‘01, my husband Ron was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Concerned that he needed to keep moving, & focus on something other than his chemo & radiation, we decided it was time.  We mentioned this to our Vet, who told us about “Misty”.  We picked her up in Orillia and never looked back.  She was a handful with lots of energy, but: very smart!

Initially we brought her to Pet Country Estate for obedience training.  As it turns out, the training was for ‘us’, not her.  Little did we know, she had already had some obedience training as a puppy!  While in class, Misty suddenly started running up the “A” frame in the arena, and we couldn't keep her off it!  We enrolled her in Pet Country Estate’s agility classes, and with help from trainer Debbie Ellis, she started her trials.  From this humble beginning, she would one day become a National Agility Champion.

She holds many titles; CGN, SGDC, AGDC, MJDC, ADC, AADC, MADC, MGDC, MSDC, MTRDC, MSCDC, Agility Trial Champion dog of Canada, ExStBronze, ExJBronze, ExGBronze, ExSBronze, ExScBronze, Bronze Award of Merit, Versatility Bronze Award, and National Agility Champion.  That’s right: Misty achieved her “National Champion Title” just last year, in August 2010.  She was 12-&-a-half at the time, which made her one of the oldest dogs at the competition.  I’ve never been so proud.  She and Ron were a great team, and it was always a pleasure to watch them ‘RUN!’

Ron has been cancer-free for 10 years now – and we have no doubt that Misty was instrumental in his recovery!  More than anything Misty was a much-loved member of our family.  Along with her ‘Canine Good Neighbour’ designation, she was also part of the Demonstration Team at every ‘Paws for a Cause/Family Day’ since year 1, in 2004.  Misty passed away on June 19, 2011 at 13 years of age.  Gone but never forgotten...heart Misty, we'll meet again on Rainbow Bridge.
